Kanonkop derives its name from the “kopje” (hill) from which a cannon was fired to alert surrounding farmers of trading ships stopping in Cape Town. This was some 300 years ago, but the farm continues to reverberate with the sounds of success achieved through their award-winning wines. Fourth generation estate proprietors, Johann and Paul Krige, have one simple aim: to maintain their “First Growth” status. And with wines such as their famous Pinotage and Paul Sauer consistently being recognized as some of the best reds on the market, their acclaim is well deserved.
Pinotage is the juice extracted from women’s tongues and lions’ hearts. After having a sufficient quantity one can talk forever and fight the devil.
